Safe Routes to School
2015

JLB Traffic Engineering, Inc. (JLB) was retained by the City of Ceres as a Subconsultant to prepare a Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) Package for the installation of four (4) solar powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) systems located 1) across Don Pedro Road adjacent to Don Pedro Elementary School, 2) across Nadine Avenue at Bordeaux Drive adjacent to Adkison Elementary School, 3) across Hackett Road at Sinclear Elementary School and 4) across Kinser Road at Blaker-Kinser Junior High School in the City of Ceres. These projects included the installation of high visibility crosswalks, new school signage and markings and the installation and upgrading of accessible curb ramps to meet ADA requirements.

The project was funded through Cycle 1 of the Active Transportation Program (ATP). RRFB systems are part of the City’s Safe Routes to School project that seeks to improve and promote walking and biking to and from school. The Final PS&E has been submitted to the City of Ceres and is awaiting approval.

JLB’s scope of work included the following:

  • Site reconnaissance to ensure line of sight to the RRFB systems
  • Identifying utility conflicts
  • Submitting 30%, 60%, 90% and final solar powered RRFB systems PS&E
  • Providing bidding and construction support
