Traffic Signal and Lighting Design
2016

JLB Traffic Engineering, Inc. (JLB) was retained by the City of Selma to design traffic signal plans for the intersection of Floral Avenue at Wal-Mart Drive, signal modifications for the intersection of Floral Avenue at State Route 99 southbound off-ramp, street lighting for approximately 1,200 feet of Floral Avenue and a signal interconnect system between the two signals. Mr. Jose Luis Benavides, P.E. is the project manager and traffic engineer of record on this project. This project includes the design of intersection geometrics, traffic signals, safety lighting, street lighting, signal interconnect and assistance with the PG&E electrical point of service.

Prior to commencing the signal design, JLB prepared a Geometric Approval Drawing (GAD) for Floral Avenue, which was reviewed and approved by the City of Selma. The GAD identified the placement of the curb returns to ensure that the design met the latest ADA requirements for the placement of signal equipment relative to the ADA ramps and crosswalks. The Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) Package for the traffic signal was prepared in accordance with the City of Selma as well as Caltrans guidelines. The PS&E is currently at 100% and awaiting approval. JLB will also provide bidding and construction support.

JLB’s scope of work includes the following:

  • Designing traffic signals and safety lighting
  • Designing a signal interconnect system
  • Designing street lighting
  • Identifying required right-of-way for the signal equipment
  • Coordinating the PG&E Rule 16 application
  • Submitting 60%, 90%, 100% and final traffic signal PS&E
